People who are creating websites and communities best beware. As soon as it becomes successful, the vultures start to circle. The whole idea that any exposure is good exposure, I don't think is accurate. I just came from a newsgroup where they allow everyone to post whatever garbage they want. It's page after page of OT posts. It becomes quite useless for someone looking for relevant material. I think these newsgroups will die out and blogs will take their place because they are more controllable. Moderation is not bad or good. It's just a tool. You have to facilitate the users and information wisely in order for your site to succeed. Protecting your domain name is also important. It's a trademark. In trademark law, if the public starts to use your trademark name as a generic term to describe something like "xeroxing copies" then your trademark is no longer defensible or yours.
