How to make a clickable contents page in a PDF

I use Open Office to write and create my PDF ebooks. It is open source software and a great alternative to using Microsoft products.

If you try to do something a little more advance though, you will find some quirks with the software. One thing I had been trying to do for a long time is to create a table of contents (TOC) that is clickable in a PDF, ie. when you click on a heading in the table of contents, it takes you right to that section in the document.

I eventually found the solution here.

To create a hotlinked table of contents, in your Writer document choose Insert > Indexes and Tables > Indexes and Tables. To make the hotlinks, click the Entries tab of the window, click to the left of the E and click Hyperlink, and click after the E and click Hyperlink again. Click All to put hyperlinks on all levels of the TOC. Click OK.

Yes, you need to click in the white box left of the E, click Hyperlink and then click on the white box after the E and click Hyperlink again.

Not very logical, but it works!
