It is no secret that successful retirement planning begins early on in life. The younger you start the better off you will be when the time comes to leave the work force and sit back and relax. However, being young and planning for retirement can also leave you room to make many mistakes regarding your retirement. Below are 12 retirement planning mistakes that you must avoid regardless of how old or young you may be. Use this list of mistakes to help you successfully plan for the future.

* Thinking you know how much you will actually need. Many people make the mistake of not saving enough or having enough retirement and quickly find themselves out of money. It’s better to have too much retirement than not enough.

* Investing in a retirement plan without actually saving money yearly on your own. Another common mistake is not having an additional savings in conjunction with your retirement plan. Even if the funds will be used to travel, an extra saving plans will help meet your needs when it comes time to retire.

* Paying off current loans before investing in retirement. Don’t try to get small loans such as college or automobiles paid off. It is better to use that money to invest in your future retirement. Focus on putting as much money as you possibly can into your retirement plan. One the other hand, you should try you best to have your mortgage paid off before retirement comes. This will keep you from having to place a large sum of your money into paying off loans.

* Believing in career permanency. If you start saving at a young age, you can expect your career to change over the years. You may be forced to adjust how much you are saving as you transfer to new jobs.

* Not understanding how your retirement plan works. Be sure that you know exactly how your retirement plan works. Be sure that there aren’t loop holes that you are missing and that you are going to get out of your plan what you are investing in it.

Being unaware of withdrawal fees. How much will you be taxed when you withdraw your money? Be sure that the majority of your money isn’t tied up in withdrawal fees.

* Choosing not to participate in your company’s retirement plant. Another common mistake people make is choosing not to participate in the retirement plan offered by their employer. If your company offers a plan, take advantage of it.

* Borrowing money against your plan. Many people feel that it is okay to borrow against the retirement plan. Borrowing too much will quickly leave you with very little over the years. If you are going to borrow money, borrow it from the bank, not your retirement.
Cashing out your plan during hard times. Try to ride out hard times instead of turning to your retirement for money. You will need the money to live off of when you are older.

* Taking too many risks. When investing in retirement, don’t take too many risks. You don’t want to be left with nothing if the economy is in default when the time comes for your to retire.

* Not getting advice from the professionals. Don’t think you can do it on your own. Get the advice from professionals who specialize in creating lucrative retirement plans for people. They can show you how and when to invest. A financial planner can set you up for retirement and you will have very little worries.

* Investing very little with intentions on investing more in the future. If you can afford it, go ahead and invest as much as you can in the future. After all, the time will come when you have to retire and you want to be prepared. Don’t have the “I’ll worry about it later” attitude when it comes to your future. Secure your future while you are young so that you can live without worries when you are older.

Use the mistakes listed above as a guide to helping you plan for retirement. Avoiding these mistakes will help you be thoroughly prepared when the time comes to retire.

Happiness is something that people often struggle to find. Why? Because busy, active lifestyles often make it difficult to truly enjoy the journey called life. If you are in search of happiness, a few lifestyle changes may be the answer. Below are 12 lifestyle changes that will keep you happy. Are you willing to make the changes in an effort to achieve happiness?

* Saving money. While money definitely doesn’t determine happiness, it does contribute to it. Consider making an effort to save money so that you don’t have the stress of wondering if you will be able to pay your monthly bills. Start saving!
Eating healthier. Food contributes directly to your mood. If you are filling yourself up with bad food every day, this is going to affect your happiness. Plus, you will have trouble keeping your weight under control which will affect your happiness, too. Eat healthier so that you can be a happier you!

* Exercising daily. Those who exercise on a daily basis tend to be happier than those that don’t. Why? Your body needs exercise to relieve stress. Exercise at least 30 minutes 3 times a week and watch your happiness increase.

* Finding a career you love. Your career will without a doubt take up most of your time. If you don’t enjoy your career, your ability to be happy will be greatly affected. Don’t settle for a career that you are not happy in. Even if you have to accept lower pay, it pays to be happy.

* Spending more time with your family. Make time in your daily schedule to spend some much needed time with your family. Studies have shown that those who spend time with their family are happier than those who have little to no time with them during the day.

* Being adventurous. Do things out of routine every now and then. Take your kids out for ice cream late at night or take up a new hobby. Being adventurous will help keep you happy. Being spontaneous can be fun!

* Getting out of debt. It’s difficult to be happy when you have debt looming over your head. Do what you can to eliminate debt as quickly as you can. The fewer bills you have each month, the more money will you will to spend on things that make you happy. Getting out of debt will leave you with less worries and more time and money for enjoyment.

* Planning for the future. Knowing that your future is secure can also help keep your happy. Be sure that you are saving for retirement so that you don’t have the worry of what life will be like when you can no longer work. Planning for the future can give you something to look forward to. Where will you travel? Do you plan on buying a retirement home? These are all things that require planning.

* Working towards your goals. Happiness comes in meeting goals. Set a few goals for yourself and strive to meet them. You will get enjoyment from the feelings of accomplishment that come from meeting your goals.

* Recycling. Having a positive impact on the earth can also help. Choose to recycle so that you can get enjoyment from doing your part to protect the planet.

* Keeping your house clean. Take a look around you. Is your house cluttered? If so, this could be taking away from your ability to be happy! Make an effort to keep your house clean so that you can relax when you come home from work. You may be surprised at how much this lifestyle change will affect your mood and happiness.
Helping other people. Living life only for yourself will leave you feeling depressed and unsatisfied. Choose to put other people before yourself and you will feel an overwhelming sense of accomplishment.

Help others so that you can help yourself be happy. Use the tips above to help change your life. Many times, it’s the little things in life that can bring about the most enjoyment and happiness. What things can you change in your life to find true happiness?

There’s an epidemic right now and it’s unemployed grown children in their twenties who are still financially dependent on their parents for housing and bills. It’s not their fault. Well, it’s not all their fault. This epidemic is the result of a terrible job market and weak economic conditions that have made things rough on everyone.

Retirement ages have been pushed, stock portfolios emptied, and houses devalued. Even a solid insurance quote is hard to get these days. So, if the preceding bleak description applies to your family, you may be wondering how to handle it, how to care for your grown children without enabling them to take the decade off. Here are some tips:

Help them with their student loans, but not their cell phone bills. College degrees aren’t paying off like they used to, or at least not as quickly. This is not your kids’ fault. They had no way of knowing when they first shouldered their student loans that the economy was going to go south and stay there. No one did. Student loan payments are costly and this is a reasonable expense to help them with. However, recreational expenses (yes, a cell phone is recreational) are their responsibility. Don’t fork out cash for their cell phone bills, Netflix subscriptions, or sushi dinners.

Encourage them to ‘slum it.’ Your kids may have expected to fall directly into a Wall Street brokerage position directly out of college, but sometimes reality isn’t as rosy as we imagine it to be. They may have to ‘slum it’ and work at a restaurant, bar, or coffee shop for a couple years. There’s nothing wrong with this, and in fact, it can be a great way to save up money while living at home and planning their next moves. You should encourage them to work, no matter how menial the job, and teach them the value of a strong work ethic.

Buy a suit, but don’t write the resume. This goes back to helping with expenses while encouraging them to proactively pursue a career. Your kid should be self-motivated to put together a stellar resume (doing whatever research is necessary) and sit in on numerous job interviews. In the meantime, helping them out with the expenses of buying professional-looking clothes is good move.
With the economy going through a rough patch and unemployment rates still at record highs, this is a time when many families are finding themselves dealing with the ‘full-nest syndrome’, grown children returning from college to live at home sans a job. Do your part to nurture your kids into taking on adult responsibilities and dealing with tough times with mental toughness and a strong work ethic.

An educated consumer is a smart consumer. This principle has been proved time and time again. Being an educated consumer can help people save thousands of dollars on products that don’t provide the bang for their buck. It’s hard to know the ins and outs of every industry, but there are easy ways to help figure it out. A small investment of time could help consumers save a lot of money.

Online Forums

Online forums are great places to find reviews on specific products. Most forums are inhabited by everyday consumers who provide honest reviews and their personal experiences with products. The Sony Camera Forum, for example, is host to a wide range of topics, telling photographers everything they have to know about Sony cameras, lenses, and accessories. This forum, and many like it, is also visited by professionals who provide their expert opinions on the subject matter. Forums are usually safe from advertising gimmicks, so consumers can be pretty confident that what they read is the real deal.

Product Reviews

Major retailers such as Amazon and major department stores often have lengthy and descriptive product reviews by customers. It’s important to take the extremely positive and extremely negative comments with a grain of salt, because one consumer may have had a different experience than the general opinion, but it’s often easy to see a general trend of positive or negative feedback from these reviews. As a rule of thumb, don’t always trust the reviews on smaller sights, because they may have been planted by people associated with the product.

Consumer Reports

For a significant purchase such as an appliance or the like, it’s always a good idea to see what Consumer Reports has to say about the industry and the product in particular. Unlike the many product review sites out there, Consumer Reports does their own studies and experiments which they describe in detail, and has real, unbiased views of everything and anything on the market. For a paid subscription members can also receive a newsletter and access to more in-depth reviews. Don’t fall for the many review sites out there; the reviews are often paid for. Mommy bloggers are good sources for opinions on home and child-related products. Be sure to check, however, that any blatant promotion of products is prefaced by a statement that the following review is sponsored.

Word of Mouth

After doing adequate research, word of mouth is always a great way to choose the best product. People who have used the product will provide true, unbiased opinions, and may be able to relate the research that led them to their purchase. They can also give an opinion about the vendor from whom they placed the purchase.

It is always a good idea to get a good feel for the industry and the varieties available before carrying out a significant purchase. The internet and online forums are great tools that helps facilitate the process, providing general knowledge, personal opinions, and a variety of vendors from whom to shop.

Bio:
Penny Talbot is a big believer in the benefits of online forums, and recommends the Sony Camera Forum for in-depth, unbiased information on Sony cameras, lenses, and accessories.

Everything is on the Internet now, from Buddhist sites to information on title loans in AZ, and like any Darwinian system, competition and the smell of blood in the water has created rampant opportunities for the generation of online wealth. Similar to how number crunchers on Wall Street cooked up extremely clever ways of earning money off niches in the stock market, bloggers, SEO experts, and Internet entrepreneurs have concocted a wife variety of money-making activities in their neck of the woods. The difference is, while Wall Street tends to be a little closed off from outsiders, anyone can participate in the new Internet rush. Here are some of the tops ways people are making money online:

Blogging. Whether you blog specifically for a company or outsource your talents in order to place links and sell ads, valuable Internet content in the form of media-rich blog posts can be a major boon for those who know how to place them in the right positions and optimize them for search engines.

SEO. Search engine optimization is like an octopus, it’s got its arms in everything on the Internet. Why is it important? Well, think about how much content there is on the Internet. If you understand the algorithms that dictate what content appears during searches, you have a valuable skill that can be marketed for big bucks. It’s the equivalent of a billboard advertisement that is hidden in an alleyway where no one can see it. Someone new comes in and says, ‘hey, why don’t we move this onto the street, where people can see it.’ SEO is the new person.

Data Mining. This is a relatively new technique that involves ‘mining’ social networks for consumer profiles and data related to taste and history. There is so much information on the Internet about people that if you can access it, make sense of it, correlate it with active trends, package your findings and sell them, you stand to make big bucks. Data mining will be the Internet marketing of the next the decade or two.

This is just a small cross-section of how money is being generated online. Other people are using Google ads, affiliate links, viral marketing, etc. The list goes on and on. The point is it’s a modern gold rush, only this time the gold will not run out, as the Internet is the medium of the future. If you get involved now, you stand to retire young off the earnings of your online endeavors.

Headhunters are always looking for new prospects for their businesses. You’ll become a very appealing option to them if you can enhance your social media profile to match what they’re looking for. To do this, you first need to understand what a headhunter is looking for when they view your profile. They are searching for people with a professional image and with the qualities needed to fill the position they have. You can make yourself a more attractive candidate by enhancing your social media profile in various ways.

The social media profile is your online business card and although your profile is for networking with friends you can also be contacted through it by a prospective employer or headhunter. When a headhunter views your social media profile, they are searching for clues about you. The first thing you must do is remove all photos and comments about any illegal activity and then change your profile photo to one that portrays you in a professional and respectful manner. You need to do these things to maintain a clean image and good reputation online.

After a first glance at your image a headhunter will dig deeper and will look for the strengths of your personality. If you do not display your strengths on your social media page a headhunter will not grasp the ‘real’ you. One way of showcasing your assets is to create a blog on your profile and frequently update it with posts on your interests, achievements and future aspirations. If you want to work within the creative sector as an artist or photographer, for example, you might want to post samples of artwork or photos and create posts with artistic tips.

Enhance your profile in such a way that it only represents what you truly are like. You should be yourself in your comments, photos and videos so don’t try to create a persona of someone you aren’t, as headhunters will see right through it once they speak to you in person or via telephone. Be honest about your attitudes, goals, interests, opinions, actions and thoughts and be confident in what you do present. Confidence is very attractive attribute, and it can make you seem more appealing. If you’re confident in who you really are and what you’re capable of, people will take notice and treat you accordingly.

Your social media profile is a way for you to market yourself on the internet. It is a great device you can use to create connections and a positive image for yourself. The opportunities you can access due to having a great social media profile are never-ending.

There are very few books that are able to deliver their message as efficiently, succinctly or clearly as Secrets of a Millionaire Mind has done.

Why Who You Are Matters More than What You Do

As you begin your journey of developing the mindset of a millionaire, it matters less what you do and more who you are. You will have the mindset of the rich and successful, which is the most essential step to becoming one.

You need to understand that you have the power to develop this mindset if you are willing to change your current situation in life. Millionaires and the very wealthy also believe that growing solid networks is important in their path to fame and fortune. The more you put these steps into motion, the more you will start to find that you too can enjoy dramatic achievement and your income from your business will hit the roof. Another major aspect of the mindset is the ability to separate your ability to make money from the necessity of spending time to make money.

What is Standing in the Way of Your Success?

One of the major obstacles that many have in terms of changing their attitude to wealth is the unconscious belief that money is a bad thing, or perhaps they have been programmed to think they don’t deserve to be wealthy or successful. Some may even feel that being wealthy means that someone else is missing out. When you have the right attitude however, and when the millionaire mindset is in place, you simply cannot avoid becoming affluent and successful. You get to loosen up and practice your wealth creation skills. Once your mind is responsive and open to financial success, you are ready to grasp the opportunities that present themselves.

Don’t assume it’s an easy ride as you learn how to become a millionaire and think like one too however – you need to constantly programme your mind with positive thinking in order to get you on the road to sustainable wealth creation. If you do not benefit from your networking relationships or work opportunities you must move on, or else you stand the risk of growing stagnant and may even lose sight of the road to wealth.

The Final Step in Developing a Millionaire Mindset

The final step you must take to grow your profits and develop the mindset of a millionaire is education and training. Every millionaire knows that associating with people who either has already tasted wealth and success or with those who are on the same road to riches, are the best people to speak to and learn from if you want to know how to be as successful as they are.

Total Quality Management is an approach that seeks to improve quality and performance within an organisation, to ensure the best level of service for customers as well as effectively preventing and handling nonconformities. As such, quality management is something that no business can do without and therefore should have a vital role in organisations of all sizes and types.

A Total Quality Management program requires that problems be identified and resolved. In this context it is always easier to correct a known problem rather than anticipating one and putting the necessary preventive measures in place to prevent it from happening. Human nature is such that we can deal with a known problem as we can clearly define it, determine its impact and quickly find a solution. Generally, there is a known cost to the problem and to the solution that is developed to resolve it. With a known percentage occurrence of problems that require corrective measures a clear “cost of quality” can be identified and these corrective costs can be added onto the final cost of the product. It’s all predictable and easily planned into our operations.

But according to Sub-Clause 8.5.3 of the ISO 9001 requirement standard: “The organisation shall determine action to eliminate the cause of potential nonconformities in order to prevent their occurrence. Preventive actions shall be appropriate to the effects of the potential problems.”

So correcting known problems is not sufficient, we also have to identify potential problem areas and implement solutions so that they do not occur. But why should we do that? How can we do it?

The “Why” is easier to answer as a problem free product means a better manufactured product and a lower cost product, as the costs of correcting are greatly reduced or non-existent. So while identifying areas of potential nonconformity with a Total Quality Management system can take a long time, the cost is always less than the correcting of a non-conformance.

The “How” is more difficult to ascertain as the “here and now” dominates our business life and many of us do not have the time or the knowledge to identify potential problem areas. But there is no clear scale to say that we prevented “A” from occurring or that “B” did not take place because we put in a procedure to prevent “XYZ”. However, what we get is a default free product and customer compliments rather than customer complaints. There is no statistical method that will help us to prevent nonconformities but there is human experience and then human intuition that arises from this experience that can help identify them. There must also be a formal process for identifying potential nonconformities and this is most likely best done through the vehicle of a brain storming session.

Then, once the potential nonconformities are identified, preventive action requests must be sent out to specific individuals with clear instructions and deadlines for implementing the required measures that will prevent the potential issues from occurring. It is a good idea to have an automated reminder system in place to ensure that once the deadline is exceeded the recipient of the preventive action is focused on completing the task. Finally, clear proof of implementation should be received before a preventive action is closed.

By following this approach, Total Quality Management can be achieved, as nonconformities are effectively prevented or handled with the appropriate action. Making use of a Quality Management System will ensure that the process runs smoothly and without additional headaches. It is only through consistent quality management practices that companies can begin to ensure a higher level of quality towards their customers and throughout the workplace.

It is a common principle in business for companies to focus all of their attention on their core competencies and outsource everything else. Outsourcing is quite a hot topic in business now as companies attempt to increase profits and cut costs.

As a company analyzes and attempts to define their core competency, it gives them a chance to decide what they believe they can do best in-house. This includes hiring the best people and providing training for those staff.

In a computer software development company for example, this will include hiring the best programmers, business analysts, project managers, sales and marketing. The company’s core competency is software development and other things such as payroll and HR could be outsourced to another company, who has the skills and technology to complete that task, often for a cheaper rate than if the software development company handled that work.

Now, what happens when the company releases a product and they start having customers call in with problem?. Who is going to take the calls and handle the complaints and problems? Where technology is concerned people have a strong tendency to just try and work out the product themselves, without reading the documentation. Many problems could be solved if customers actually sat down and read the manual before starting.

Programmers do not make the best support staff and they could easily be demotivated in their jobs if they have to handle customer complaints. This is an ideal situation for a company to use an outsourced call center .

With some basic training in the company’s products and creating a knowledge base for operators to provide the most common answers to problems, the call center operators can deal directly with support issues.

It can be an expensive cost providing office space, computers and telephones to employees, especially if a company is located in an expensive city like New York. Call centers can be located anywhere in the country or even around the world.

Call centers are not just for handling customer support issues. They can also be used to generate new leads, through cold calling potential customers. Potential leads can then be passed onto the company’s sales team who can then meet with potential clients. Nothing can excite a sales person more than having lists of per-qualified potential customers.

The core competency of a call center company is dealing with potential and existing customers by telephone and email. By outsourcing this type of work, it enables companies to focus on what they are truly good at, at the same time cutting staffing costs.

I have been having trouble lately with Bloglines which I use to read blog updates, but I only found out today that the website will be closed on October 1st!

I know Google reader is probably better for managing RSS feeds, but I used Bloglines from the beginning when I first learned about RSS and I did’nt feel like changing. I also don’t like the feeling that Google would be controlling more and more of the web.

Surely there is a company out there that would be interested in buying a site like bloglines? I have heard that Twitter has overtaken RSS but I am still not convinced that Twitter could be a replacement for RSS.

I can imagine that there must be people like me who are still using the service? Anyone?
