Just won my first .asia domain auction

May 14, 2008

I just won my first .asia domain through the auction system. To participate in auctions you need to have registered the domain during the landrush period.

I was the only bidder on the domain and I got it for $10. The domain is ubud.asia. Ubud is a beautiful town in Bali. I like the registering domains for places and cities I would like to travel to. Producing content for a site in a beautiful, tropical location is a great excuse to travel to a destination.

Travel sites are also easy to monetize with hotels, hostels and tour affiliates.

Playing around with video

May 12, 2008

I have been enjoying playing around with some videos I have taken. My computer though doesn’t have enough grunt though to do any heavy editing.

I just discovered TubeMogul which automatically uploads your videos to 14 different video sites. I had been using Video Post Robot which is a paid service and had been having some problems. TubeMogul is free and seems to work great.

I now have 100,000 plus views in YouTube, which really isn’t a lot compared with some popular videos, but if you multiply this by 10 different video sites, you can see that video can be a great way to promote a website. Of course not everyone is going to visit your site, and video sites other than YouTube just don’t get as much traffic, but if you had a memorable domain, I think video can be a great way to promote your brand.

Another thing I found was a site called HowCast. It is a user generated how to video website. They also paying people $50 a video. I think there are a range of topics you need to need to select to be paid, but if you are a little savy with making videos it could be something worth checking out.

Looking for guest posts

May 10, 2008

To help keep this blog moving while I am working on my site for the Beijing Olympics, I thought I would open up this blog to guest bloggers. I have written some guest posts on other blogs and have found it to be a good way to get new traffic and links to your site.

I am not going to accept any spammy posts or posts linking to spammy sites - only developed websites please.

I am open to any posts on finance, investing, making money online, domains, property and living overseas.

Dot Asia auctions

May 6, 2008

I have written a bit about dot Asia registrations and I was successful with a couple of domains. Some other domains which other people also applied for during the landrush period are now up for auction. Only the other people who applied for the domain during the landrush period can enter the auction.

I currently have two domains which I am bidding on. I didn’t want to get involved in the auctions, but there is the potential to still get some good names. One auction only has one other participant and the other one has two other participants.

The first auction ends in six days time. Pool is running the auctions.

I am currently developing one of my .asia domains, so it will be interesting to see if it gets any love from the search engines. Rather than .com, .co.uk .asia is an actual keyword, so I wonder if the search engines will treat the extension any differently.
